Rockets Fall In Section Opener

LAKEVILLE — Fourth-seeded Lakeville scored seven runs in the second inning and went on to defeat No. 5 John Marshall 9-2 in the first round of Section One, Class AAAA softball play on Tuesday.

McKinley Malecha had the big hit in the inning for North (10-10) with a two-out grand slam.

Malecha finished 2-for-4 while Jordan Peterson went 4-for-4 with an RBI.

Kaitlyn Young held John Marshall to five hits and struck out six.

"By the time we got anything going the game was out of reach," JM coach Thang Nguyen said of his team.

The Rockets scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings as Megarn Karp hit a sacrifice fly and Grace Freed hit an RBI single, her second hit of the game.

JM (10-11) slips into the elimination bracket and will face the loser of No. 1 New Prague vs. No. 8 Lakeville South game at 4 p.m. on Thursday at Todd Park in Austin.
