2014 Rockets Volleyball

"Building a great program is more than winning volleyball matches; it is more about providing each player with the best academic, athletic, and social experience that can be found anywhere."

Rockets continue to do well in the Big 9.

The Rockets beat a strong Kenyon-Wanamingo team and lose some close games to powerhouses Edina, Stewartville, and Mayo. After a long week of playing the Rockets get back on track beating Northfield and Mankato West and are now 7-3 in the Big 9.  The Rockets continue to play tough teams in their non-conference games and tournaments and are getting good experience.

The Rockets are at the top of the Big 9 after wins over Mankato East and Albert Lea this week.

The Rockets get dominating wins over Mankato East and Albert Lea this week and remain at the top of the Big 9 conference along with Rochester Mayo. The Rockets continue it's relentless defense with 61 and 62 digs in the two games allowing us to be very effective on offense.  Abol Barnaba continues to dominate the front line with 7 and 6 blocks and Nicole Fautsch led the team with 11 and 13 kills respectively. Kalli Fautsch and Kayla Ness are doing a wonderful job running our offense combing for 33 and 26 set assists in the two games. They do a nice job of mixing up the offense and allowing our hitters to be successful. When you have the line up we have with Nicole, Abol, Tori, Gloria, Kalli, and Bridley as your hitters it doesn't really get much better than that. The Rockets have had 2 great serving games with 13 and 19 ace serves with Kia Schepp having 7 ace serves and Nicole Fautsch with 11 ace serves in the 2 games. The Rockets go to Owatonna and Austin next week and Chanhassen next Saturday.

The Rockets get second conference win over Century in 5!

John Marshall Rockets defeat Rochester Century in 5 coming from behind 0-2. After starting slow in sets 1 and 2 and playing 2 really tight sets the Rockets finally came out and dominated sets 3, 4, and 5. With 95 digs on the night the JM defense was unrelenting lead by Kristy Strain with 25. The Rockets also answered with 56 kills lead by Nicole Fautsch with 21 and Kayla Ness and Kalli Fautsch setting a balanced attack with 20 and 22 set assists. With Abol Barnaba's strong net play - Century struggled to stop JM's tough front line! Kia Schepp served 38/41 with 8 ace serves to lead the Rockets to their second conference victory! I am proud of how they stuck with it and stayed focused and confident in their abilities to play this game! The Rockets play Tuesday in Mankato and are home on 9/18 against Albert Lea.

John Marshall Volleyball opens Big 9 Conference play with a win over Faribault!

After losing a close first set to Faribault the Rockets fight back and win the next 3 sets.  After taking the second set the Rockets never lost control, they executed their game and never looked back.  It was a great team win and fun to watch. Tenacious defense, great passing and our tall front line finishing was a win win all the way around! Defense lead by Kristy Strain and Kia Schepp  who both had 12 digs each and offense lead by our 2 setters Kalli Fautsch and Kayla Ness made it difficult for Faribault to handle our tough hitters in Gloria Kitange, Abol Barnaba, and Tori Thompson who respectively had 16, 10, and 10 kills. Abol also had 9 blocks making Faribault change their game plan. Kayla Livingston and Bridley Diggins stepped up to the plate as well tonight stepping in to some crucial spots as Nicole Fautsch was out tonight with a sprained ankle.  All around great team win!  Come watch some great volleyball and cheer on your Rockets! Next game is Thursday home against Century.
