The #3 ranked Northfield Raiders stayed unbeaten in league play defeating JM 62-41 Saturday. JM led 27-24 at intermission. "We came out with a lot of energy and played a terrific first half," JM coach Phil Schroeder said. "Unfortunately, we couldn't keep pace with a very talented Northfield team in the second half. " JM's Jessica Ruden continued her strong play with 13 points.
Final exams take center stage this week, and JM returns to action on Saturday at Mayo. That game is a 5:45pm start in another girl / boy double-header.
Jessica Ruden poured in 24 points with four 3-pointers and JM blasted Century 66-31 Friday at Century. Achol Rehan added 11 points for the Rockets. "We stepped up our defense and had good ball pressure which resulted in some transition baskets," JM coach Phil Schroeder said.
Rockets turned in an excellent defensive performance in a rout over Winona 58-20. Winona managed just 10 first-half points. JM coach Phil Schroeder said it was a team effort, on both sides of the court. "We're a much better team when we when have good ball movement."
In a game of scoring runs Austin had the last meaningful one as it beat JM 61-58 in Big Nine Conference girls basketball Saturday at JM. Austin ultimately won the game at the free-throw line, converting 13 of 23 attempts. Rockets shot just nine free throws, making seven.
