Expectations

These player and parent expectations are meant to protect our team's inclusive "We Are Family" culture and teach our boys what it takes to be better players, better teammates and better people, on and off the field.

They remind us to always be kind, open, honest and listen in good faith so that we can all look back on our season together with fond memories.

Players

Be a good student. Attend all school classes & meet/exceed expectations.

Attend all soccer tryouts, practices and games.

Trust and respect each other (no egos, no bullies).

Be on time and give 100% effort.

Have a positive attitude.

Take personal responsibility:

  • Listen to and share information from coaches
  • Read & respond to messages on GroupMe (year-round)
  • Ask coaches questions to understand & improve
  • Be open to constructive input from teammates
  • Learn from mistakes (no excuses, no blaming)
  • Find additional ways to train on your own

Show good sportsmanship:

  • Represent your family, team and JM with integrity
  • Accept decisions by coach/referee without argument (no foul language or gestures)
  • Lend a helping or congratulatory hand to teammates and opponents
  • Avoid negative chants (no "You Can't Do That")

Leave the team better than you found it:

  • Mentor new players
  • Offer ideas for improvement
  • Volunteer for booster club fundraisers
  • Clean up fields and stadiums after use
  • Return uniforms and equipment in excellent condition or pay for replacement cost

Parents

Model & hold your player accountable for the expectations listed above.

Place emotional & physical well-being of players before all else.

Allow coaches to do their jobs without interference:

  • Do not interrupt practices
  • Do not not give players instructions at games

Do everything you can to make the season a positive experience for everyone:

  • Be patient - we're all volunteers who have other jobs
  • Be flexible - information changes often or is not available
  • Be helpful - if something is broken or confusing, offer to fix it
  • Be nurturing - teach players how to send their own messages to coaches or ask questions on GroupMe
  • Be private - do not openly complain or cause dissent
