Frequently Asked Questions

What are the lettering requirements?

  • To receive a letter in girl's soccer, a player must have played in 6 halves of varsity games during the regular season. Team members must have no violations or suspensions under MN State HS League rules & policies. There may be some circumstances that a player doesn’t meet the requirements of 6 halves but receives a letter due to a coach's discretion.

Do I need to attend SAQ?

  • No. However, it is highly recommended for players that want to make the varsity team. SAQ will be part of captain's practices, and girl's soccer will have its own scheduled SAQ time.

I want to attend SAQ but can’t afford it.

  • Talk with Coach Dahl or one of the captains, as the team has a few scholarships available to help with the cost of SAQ.

Do I need to attend captains practice?

  • No, but you will miss out on a great time of team bonding. Also, the captains will help you get prepared for the upcoming season.

What else can I do to get ready for tryouts?

  • To help get prepared for tryouts, you should complete 3-4 workouts each week during the summer.  A strength/conditioning summer packet can be found on our team website.

What can I expect for tryouts?

  • Tryouts are broken into two sessions. Morning tryouts will focus on small-sided games where players will get frequent touches on the ball and conditioning tests (beep test, 2-mile run, 20-yard sprint). Afternoon tryouts will focus on larger-sided games 7v7, 9v9, and 11v11.

What if I cannot attend tryouts?

  • Tryouts are extremely important and are needed to evaluate players to determine appropriate team placement. If you are going to miss tryouts, you must let one of the coaches know ahead of time. Coaches will have to use prior data to place players that miss tryouts.

What if I cannot attend concussion testing?

  • You need to have baseline concussion testing completed before being cleared to practice. If you cannot make June 2nd testing, you will want to contact our athletic trainer, Ashley Harding to schedule a different time. Ashley’s email is HARDING.ASHLEY@MAYO.EDU
