Abby Miles collected a pair of wins in the circle as John Marshall toppled Byron 11-4 and Kasson-Mantorville 9-0 in non-conference softball action on Tuesday.

The Byron game was an added as both teams were looking to replace  cancelled tournament games earlier in the season. It was also bumped up a day in anticipation of bad weather forecast for Wednesday.

The Rockets scored three times in the bottom of the first and never trailed as they built a 6-0 lead after three innings.

Miles hit a three-run inside-the-park homer to highlight a four-run sixth as the Rockets put the game away. She pitched all seven innings and allowed three earned runs on eight hits.

"We were aggressive at the plate and kept the pressure on throughout the game," JM coach Thang Nguyen said. "We made a few mistakes in the field, but responded by picking each other up."

Melanie Sadecki had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs for the Rockets. Gabby Dokken drove in two runs and Grace Freed had two hits and an RBI.

In the second game for JM, Miles pitched a five-hit shutout and struck out nine without allowing a walk against Kasson-Mantorville.

"Abby Miles was very sharp in picking up the win," Coach Nguyen said.

The Rockets scored five times in the first inning to jump ahead early. Sammy Guetter had an RBI single and Miles delivered a two-run double.

Gina Pula had a solo home run in the fourth inning and Freed finished 3-for-4.

"We got contributions up and down the lineup tonight, whether it was hitting, pitching or fielding," Nguyen said. "Mikayla Gee made a great defensive play in the first inning against Kasson for a double play and that really set the tone."

The Rockets (9-3) play at Winona at 5 p.m. Thursday.
