PINE ISLAND — Abby Miles tossed a three-hit shutout and John Marshall had a pair of big scoring innings to beat Pine Island 12-0 in five innings in non-conference softball on Friday.

Miles struck out seven and did not walk a batter. She was also 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs at the plate.

The Rockets broke the game open with five runs in the second inning as Gabby Dokken (one RBI) and Maggie Yadloskty (two RBIs) provided back-to-back doubles.

Miles had a two-run double in a six-run fifth inning and Grace Freed added a two-run single. Freed finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

"After an emotional conference win (Thursday) night, our girls came out focused and avoided any kind of let down," JM coach Thang Nguyen said. "We didn't commit an error and capitalized on a couple big innings offensively."

JM (11-3) plays a doubleheader at Austin today at noon.
