John Marshall picked up its second win of the day, beating Century 7-4 in Big Nine Conference softball at the Rochester Regional Stadium bubble on Friday.

The win left the Rockets unbeaten, at 3-0 in the Big Nine and overall. Century is 1-3, 1-4.

JM got started with its offense in the first inning, stringing together three straight two-out hits as it scored two runs.

"It was a tight game with both teams making plays over the first 4 1/2 inning and very few runs scored," JM coach Thang Nguyen said.

The Rockets later got three runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth.

Olivia Evans had a home run for the Rockets and Abby Gee had two hits. Grace Henriksen had two hits for Century.

Abby Miles got the pitching win for JM, allowing seven hits and just two earned runs.

"We strung together some hard hits late and got a big home run from Olivia," added Nguyen. "We knew we would need every run and Century got hot in the last inning — but our girls were able to pick up a good win against a tough rival."

The Rockets and Panthers both return to action next Thursday - weather permitting - with JM facing Austin, and Century facing Mayo.
