2020 Season Update

Hello everyone,

As you know by now, our season has been cancelled.  I want to thank all of the boys and parents for their patience and understanding these last couple months of uncertainty.  I know everyone is disappointed, especially our seniors, and John and I share your feelings.  Every year we look forward to working together and getting to know one another and this year was no different.  Being able to meet and grow as a team is something we enjoy very much and not getting to experience those things has been hard.

I want to give a special thanks to our captains this year - Seniors Glen Erickson and Stephen Lange-Pearson, and Junior Enoch Kim.  Their work this offseason as well as their commitment to our organization the past few years has been tremendous and has lead to the success we have recently enjoyed!

Finally, when restrictions are lifted, I hope you all continue to work together and help each other grow as people and tennis players.  John and I look forward to seeing you guys on the tennis court working on your game and ready to compete next season!   If there is anything we can do to assist you please feel free to reach out to us - we are always happy to help or answer questions.

Best wishes,

Josh and John

3/25/20 Update

Hello all,

Below is the latest correspondence I've been given from the State High School League.  Basically it states that sports/activities will be suspended until schools are back in session.  The earliest spring sports would be able to have any contact is May 4th.  We will continue to monitor the situation and I will provide updates to you as I get them.  Thanks so much for your patience and please stay safe!

Josh and John

The Minnesota State High School League continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation and the most current information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the Office of the Governor. The MSHSL supports the efforts of all students, staff and communities in limiting the spread of COVID-19. The goal of the MSHSL is to be responsive to member schools and keep future participation options open for the spring activity season.

Effective immediately and continuing until the Governor of Minnesota has lifted his school closure declaration:

  • All participation in MSHSL spring activities at all member schools is suspended.

  • Participation includes, but is not limited to, competitions, training, practices,

    scrimmages, and contests.

Pending a reopening of schools by the Governor, return to participation protocols will be determined and communicated by the MSHSL Board and MSHSL staff.

No decisions regarding the cancellation of spring activities have been made at this time.

The suspension of participation includes fine arts activities and athletics and the following events remain suspended indefinitely:

  • Speech Section and State Tournaments

  • Music Contests

  • Visual Arts Competitions and State Festival

  • MSHSL State Robotics Tournament

  • MSHSL Clay Target State Tournament

Additional information will be provided as it becomes available and as decisions are made.

Update 3/15/20

In accordance to the rules set forth below we will a prepare to begin practice at the JM courts March 30 from 330-530pm.  Please continue to check for updates.  I will also post the information that we were going to discuss at the PAC meeting in terms of team rules, uniforms, and other info about what to expect when we start having home and away matches.

Season Update 3/15/20

Here is the latest update from the MSHSL:

Consistent with Emergency Executive Order 20-02 issued on March 15, 2020, by Governor Walz the Minnesota State High School League has updated information on activity participation limitations. Effective from Wednesday, March 18, 2020 through Friday, March 27, 2020:

  • There will be no MSHSL activities and athletics at any member school.
  • This includes all participation including, but not limited to training, practices, scrimmages, and contests
The previous MSHSL directive prohibiting scrimmages, contests and competitions with other MSHSL programs for Spring activities and athletics will continue until April 6, 2020. As COVID-19 is rapidly evolving, the MSHSL will continue to monitor the most current information and directives from the Minnesota Department of Health, the Governor of Minnesota, and the Centers for Disease Control.

The MSHSL will continue to work within the intent and support of the Emergency Executive Order and Department of Health recommendations in its actions and decisions. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available and as decisions are made.

Emergency Executive Order 20-02 is available here

As you all are aware, the situation regarding the coronavirus is serious and continually changing. Be prepared to adjust further. We will keep you posted.

Sincerely,     The MTCA Executive Board

Boys Tennis 2020

Hello all and welcome to the 2020 JM boys tennis season.  John and I are looking forward to beginning the season and starting practice on Monday March 23!

Prior to the beginning of our season is our school's PAC meeting (Parent/Athlete/Coach) for spring sports on Tuesday March 17.  At 6pm in the JM auditorium, our school's Athletic Director, Brian Ihrke, will provide information, rules, and regulations for all school sponsored sports.  Then at 630pm all the sports teams will split up to their assigned rooms at JM (ours is 3-115) and we will have our own team meeting.  We will discuss team rules, our schedule, uniforms, etc.  Attendance is mandatory for the student athlete and at least 1 parent so please plan accordingly!

Our season begins on the JM tennis courts on Monday March 23 and practices will typically run from 330pm-530pm.  You are making a commitment by being apart of our team so please be at practice every day!  Anything other than sickness/excused absences will not be tolerated.  In order to be the best team we can, we need everyone present at practices and matches!  Also check out our schedule of meets/matches/scrimmages posted on the big9conference.org website.  Search under the "activities schedules" for John Marshall and then "view schedules" for boys tennis.  Please take care of any conflicts (such as work) as early as possible.

Parents, thank you for allowing your sons to be a part of our team.  We hope you will find that within this team is an environment of sportsmanship, hard work, respect for each other, learning, and fun!

We look forward to seeing/meeting you on March 17.
