Team Trophy: team champion and 2nd place team
Your school will be notified by telephone prior to 11:00 A.M. on the day of the race if the meet has to be postponed due to inclement weather. The alternative meet day is the Friday of the same week.
Please stay off residential property adjoining the course. Also, do not walk, jog, or run on any of the putting surfaces or sand traps. Please display proper conduct at all times and leave the golf course better than when you arrived.
Two golf carts will again be used for each race. One will go ahead of the runners, and one will stay behind the last runner and assist any injured participants.
The course will be clearly marked. Runners who gain an unfair advantage over other competitors by deviating from the race lanes or physical contact will be disqualified.
The course will be marked with a double line at least five feet wide. Runners must stay within the marked path. Course guards are positioned at critical areas and are instructed to report the numbers of any runners who “cut.”
Teams with identical scores will have the tie broken by looking at the finish of the 6th runner for each team. It a team does not have a 6th runner, they automatically receive a lower meet finish position to the team with a 6th runner.
Contestant numbers: Assigned numbers must be worn on the front of the contestant’s jersey. The number must be securely pinned on the outside of the contestant’s shirt at chest level on the front, right side up. We will supply safety pins. The chip is in the bib so make sure they are distributed properly.
Finish Chute: The finish area will be different because of the chip timing. We will still have workers in the area to help runners move out of the corral and we will have a trainer there if needed. We will be backing up the chip timing with another timing system as well as the finish lynx system. Remember to completely cross the mats in the finish area before they slow down. All other runners and spectators must stay out of the chute and roped in scoring area.
Meet packets may be obtained at the official’s table only after your team has claimed one of the camp areas east or west of the fairway but not outside the cart path. Make sure that your camp is back far enough from the fairway so it does not interfere with the start of the race. Tents are allowed only if the stakes have shallow penetration and leave no unsightly marks. Please remember to leave your camp area free of litter before you leave.
The starting line and finish areas must be kept clear of non-competing runners and spectators.
A certified athletic trainer will be available for all races. He/she will be stationed near the finish line.
Several parents have noted that our current system of sharing pictures only allows the uploading of one picture at a time. Although this is doable, it does take a lot of time for those uploading a large amount of pictures. As a result, Becky Helgeson has kindly set up a Flicker account that allows large batch uploads and downloads. If you have pictures to share or want to download pictures, please the click the links below:
Thank-you to everyone who volunteered to help with the Scheell's Happy Human Race. Your help was greatly appreciated by the meet director. Below is a response from the meet organizer.
6 September 2021
Dear John Marshall High School Cross Country Team,
The Rochester Running Club and the Scheels Healthy Human Race would like to express our tremendous appreciation for your dedication and commitment to helping with the Healthy Human Race on Saturday August 28th at your aid stations along 20th St. SE, near the relay exchange point. You helped us to execute what was probably one of the most relaxed race days.
The whole event was so successful from the packet pick-up to the last person to cross the finish line. Knowing the JM High School Cross Country Team were so capable and possessed the expertise to accomplish the tasks set before you was a huge relief and you were a big part of that successful execution.
You knew what needed to be done and we depended on you to “just do it”. Your presence made so much difference and we are indebted to you for your unselfish dedication to the Healthy Human Race.
You are a great partner and tremendously appreciated.
Simply to say thanks just does not seem adequate, but please know that “thanks” speaks volumes. You are truly invaluable!! I hope you will join us once again next year on August 27, for the 38th running of this event.
You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give. Winston Churchill
Race Director Scheels Healthy Human Race
PS…..All the best for a highly successful season!!!
Thanks to everyone who attended the parents meeting on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the meeting had a glitch and did not get recorded. Below is a .pdf of the presentation with all the information covered. You won't get the benefit of hearing the questions at the end of the meeting, but all the important information is here. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Coach Sonnabend. We are looking forward to a great season!
In an effort to help create training programs that fit the running experience of each athlete, we are asking everyone to record their summer workouts in the provided Google Form. Please be honest. Runs can take place during Captain's practices or on your own.

Traditionally, pasta feeds serve as a great way to gather as a team and socialize the day before a meet. Each event is held at the home of a team member, but can also be held at the school. Each pasta feed has one host and one or more helpers. If you are interested in volunteering to host or help with a pasta feed, please click the image to pick a date.
WE WILL NOT BE HOLDING PASTA FEEDS THIS SEASON DUE TO COVID-19 GUIDELINES
