Mankato East collected 16 hits and scored in six of the seven innings it batted to defeat John Marshall 14-5 in Big Nine Conference softball on Tuesday.

The host Rockets also had three errors.

"We just couldn't get in a groove defensively as East put runners on base and scored almost every inning," JM coach Thang Nguyen said. "It is frustrating for everyone, but the girls keep working hard and plugging away. As long as we keep competing and stay focused on getting better we will be successful."

Madisyn Kozitza hit a home run for East while Lily Andrego and Kayla Fingerson had three hits each.

John Marshall had several base runners, but just four hits through six innings. The Rockets then had five hits and scored four times in the bottom of the seventh. Taryn Adams, the losing pitcher, opened the inning with a solo homer. Adams finished 3-for-3 at the plate while Megan Karp and Addie Black were both 2-for-4.

"Over the last two days, we have 9 runs in the 7th inning and just 1 run over the first 6. We need to get the bats going early for sure," added Nguyen.

JM (6-13 overall, 2-8 Big Nine) closes its regular season on Thursday at Faribault.
