NEW PRAGUE — Rochester John Marshall, the No. 8 seed in Section 1AAAA, put a serious scare in No. 1 seed New Prague on Tuesday, but the Rockets failed to cash in on their scoring chances and ultimately lost 2-0.

"We played well, but didn't get the hits we needed early on," JM coach Thang Nguyen said. "Give New Prague credit for executing and putting two runs up."

Mia Kraimer tossed a two-hit shutout for New Prague (14-7). Melanie Boisen hit a double for the Rockets and Emily Bowron added a single.

JM had runners on in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings, but came up empty each time. The top of the fifth was the best opportunity as the Rockets had runners on first and third with one out. Kraimer then induced a ground-ball double play to get out of the game.

Boisen pitched a strong game for the Rockets, but suffered the loss. She threw a five-hitter and held New Prague scoreless until the Trojans scored twice in the fifth inning when they had four of their hits, including a triple and two bunt singles.

JM (9-12) will now face city rival Mayo, the No. 5 seed, in an elimination round at 5 p.m. Thursday at Todd Park in the next round of action. The winner of that game will then play another game at 7 p.m.

"We've got to come out and play hard to advance on Thursday," Nguyen said.
