Mayo extended its season by one game Thursday with a narrow 3-2 win over John Marshall in a loser-out game in Section 1AAAA.

Lisko got the complete-game win for Mayo in the game and pitched out of two big jams late in the game.

"That was exciting," JM coach Thang Nguyen said. "We had the people we wanted up at the end of the game batting and it gave us a chance. It was just great pitching by both teams."

Mayo scored three runs early, including an RBI single by Lisko in a two-run third. JM got a run back in the fifth when freshman Gina Pula hit her first home run of the season.

The Rockets scored a run in the sixth to cut the margin to 3-2. They had runners on first and third with one out, and bases loaded with two outs, but each time Lisko got the crucial out.

Lisko then worked out of a first-and-second jam with two outs in the seventh to end eight-seeded JM's season at 9-13.

"The future looks promising," Nguyen said. "We have a lot of young kids who love the game."
