We are still all in a stay at home order from the governor. A good idea.

I have a message in to Mike Manahan the pro at Northern Hills to text me when his course will open. As of now it is still closed.  The range as well.

So what to do during this time. I will list some things that come to mind.

Learn the rules.
Go online to find stretching exercises just for golf and general fitness.
Go on walks to be physically ready for the season. Most golf courses are around 6500 yards. There are 1760 yards in a mile.
Go online to find videos on teaching things like, grip, swing, putting, chipping, driving etc. Maybe do one a day.
If possible, go to a park. Set up a target and if no one is around, hit some balls to a stick or stake set up at 30 yards, 50 yards, 100 yards.
If you need some old golf balls I have some. Let me know if you would like 20-30 old balls to hit in a park. We use these for practice so I would like as many back as possible.
Swing 25 to 50 times a day. Nothing big just work on shifting your weight and tempo.
Video your swing, send it to me or another player or just for yourself to see what your hands are doing at the top etc. Compare your swing to one on Youtube. Become a student of the game. Learn to analyze your own swing so you have something to work on once we get to the range.
Putting is the easiest thing to practice at home. Set up a course in your house. Putt to a quarter on the floor. Establish a routine, know your trigger to start your putting motion. Again, look how the pros have a routine, how they approach the ball, etc.

With the season up in the air, Jon Brandt is still moving forward with an order for any of the items below. I emailed his email info. so people could contact him about an order. If you have questions, please contact me by text or email. dwmiller@rochester.k12.mn.us

Possibly think about future years for the pullover and shirt.

The shirt, and pullover are all optional. They are not required to be on the team. Many 7th and 8th graders wait a year or two until they start traveling to matches or grow a little. We try to keep the shirts pretty much the same from year to year but availability from Nike is an issue.  Basically, it is up to you.

march 17, 19, 24, and 26th.  3:15 to 4pm in the gym to hit foam balls.

Bring only an iron or two. I would suggest a 5 or 6 iron.  No other clubs are necessary.

Still waiting on a Dual match with Century.

Players need to know the basic rules of the game.

We will go over the rules at some of the practices but in the mean-time players should go to USGA.org and search out rules.

Players can find video tutorials to make understanding the rules much easier.

There are also some rules apps available to quiz yourself or just to have for bus rides. Remember, phones are not allowed on the course during play.
